Magic exists with people and horses. The trained and trusted horses at HorseAbility bring confidence, smiles, and laughter to our riders. Our mounts are selected and trained according to the special needs of the client. Each horse has a quiet and dependable disposition, a comfortable gait, and years of experience both with skilled and unskilled riders.

We have many horses working with our program. Most of the horses have been with our program for five or more years (and some have been here since the beginning of HorseAbility!).
“There is something about the outside of a horse that is good for the inside of a man”–Winston Churchill

The 2005 Horse of the Year:
“Double Take” Bandit

HorseAbility's Horses:

BOOMER

The smallest of the horses, Boomer gets his name from one of the white markings on his rump, resembling a boomerang.  He only stands a little over 12 hands and is a cute black and white pinto.  With his meek disposition he teaches our youngest students in both the hippotherapy and therapeutic riding program and is the favorite mount for many. Recently Boomer had 3/4 of his ear removed due to cancer. His recovery was quick and amazing!

CHURCHILL

After spending many years as a hero at Stanhope stables Churchill has returned to HorseAbility and has advanced on many of our walk, trot, canter riders. He is also a great teacher to many of our instructors and volunteers, on both a riding as well as a spiritual level.

BUDDY

Buddy is a palomino quarter horse, who was donated to us by the Greene family as their old show horse.  He is used both in the hippotherapy and therapeutic riding program teaching all the way up to beginner jump students.

SASSY

Sassy is a chestnut quarter pony, standing at 14.1 hands and is adored by many of our students.  He used to be shown successively in the pony hunters and also as a lower level dressage horse.  He is a great teacher and many of our students learn to ride independently on him.

TOPAZ

Despite only being 13.1 hands, Topaz is a favorite among our students.  He is a golden palomino and works in HorseAbility’s therapeutic riding and hippotherapy program.  He does not just teach our beginners, but also takes our more advanced students to hunter/jumpers, dressage, and combined training shows.

JESTER

Jester is a painted pony who was donated to our program by the Simmons family. He is a great asset both our therapeutic riding and hippotherapy program. Jester has a spirited personality that makes for inimitable rides.

HENRY

Henry, a percheron appaloosa came to HorseAbility as a carriage horse.  He works in both the hippotherapy and therapeutic riding program and despite his large size, he is very docile and a favorite mount to many of our riders.

THUNDER

Thunder is a hefty draft horse standing at nearly 16 hands. As a new comer to our heard this gentle giant has made quite a staple of himself to our programs, his abilities to walk, trot, canter and jump are incredible as is his size. He has become a fast favorite to many of our students and volunteers

ZEUS

Donated from Sweethills Stables, this draft trail horse is a solid ride for many of our students. With his large stature and old wisdom his personality shines right through his riders in both our therapeutic riding and hippotherapy program.

DUDLEY

Another one of our unique personalities in the barn, this chestnut quarter horse brings great pleasure to many of our walk, trot, canter and jump riders. Dudley is a retired hunter/jumper show horse donated to our program by the Fortunato family. He has brought great strides to our beginner to advanced riders in our Therapeutic riding program.

TROUTLINE

A great equine and athlete, this 3 foot hunter/jumper has a fun loving spirit which has captured the heart of many of our volunteers and staff. Troutline is a 16 hand bay warmblood, who with his great agility and strength gives great rides to our advanced riders.

WESLEY

Wesley is a 17.1 hand chestnut thoroughbred.  He has training in jumpers, equitation, dressage and combined training.

MONA

Mona is a prestigious Jr.hunter horse who was generously donated by the Phillips Family. Along with her vast background and training, Mona’s strong character and powerful will helps bring our riders to an extraordinary level of horseback riding.

ALLIE

“Halleluiah” was generously donated to our program by Sue McDonald. This mild tempered, kind hearted mare is well schooled in dressage and has been helping various students master their riding skills on the flat.

PORKY

This lovable horse came to our program from Indian Head Ranch. He was instantly adapted into our program and made his mark on the hearts of all of our volunteers, staff, and clientele. His lively energy and enthusiasm makes him a favorite mount for many of our riders.

AMBER

This bay painted mare pony is a true sweetheart at the barn. With her beautiful disposition and warm personality, it is no wonder why so many of our friends around the barn have fallen in love with her. Although she is the most recent addition to the herd, we hope that she will bring great pleasure to our students in our therapeutic riding program.

BEAR

This petite pony known by his owners, Erica and Tom Chillemi, as “Barely There” was recently donated to be used in our Ketcham ride school, therapeutic riding, and hippotherapy programs. He has made a tremendous growth and become an essential piece to our facility at Ketcham Farm.  His youthful pizzazz makes for a great ride for many of our beginner to advance students on the flat, as well as over fences.

BEAU

Beau, a roan quarter horse was generously donated to our program by one of our instructors, Pam Holbrook and the Bruskin family. He is used in the therapeutic riding program and teaches many of our walk, trot, canter riders. Although being aged, this young-at-heart equine is a great mount for beginner through advanced riders.

CAPITANO

Loved and Owned by Hayley Carson, this Ketcham native has become a trademark of the farm and our program. Capi stands a pronounced 18 hands tall, this grey warmblood is ridden mostly by our instructors and volunteer staff. His remarkable training and extensive hunter/jumper career makes him a phenomenal teacher.
