Denise Colon is an NYS licensed clinical social worker, mother of two and an avid recreational horseback rider. She is a graduate of the NYU Silver School of Social Work and has a teaching background as an adjunct professor at the City University of New York, and a faculty field advisor at Columbia School of Social Work. Currently, Denise is Director of the Department of Social Work Services at Mount Sinai Hospital of Queens with a faculty appointment at the Icahn School of Medicine, Department of Preventive Medicine.
Denise has had experience in the field of therapeutic riding for over 18 years. Her keen interest in the partnership between equines and people led her to establish a community-based riding program as a NARHA certified therapeutic riding instructor in Riverdale Stables which ran successfully for six years. Denise has also been involved with HorseAbility in a variety of capacities throughout the years: volunteer, instructor, and friend. She is currently PATH certified as an Equine Specialist in Mental Health and Learning (ESMHL) and hopes to continue to contribute to HorseAbility by exploring and developing in the field of equine-facilitated psychotherapy and counseling.
