We are pleased to introduce you to our program! HorseAbility, founded in 1993,  is a non-profit organization with 501(c)(3) status as designated by the Internal Revenue Service. We are proud to be one of the only North American Riding for the Handicapped Association (NARHA) Premier Accredited Centers on Long Island. This prestigious title is awarded to centers that demonstrate excellence in providing quality, professional equine assisted activities. This voluntary process recognizes NARHA centers that have met established industry standards. To Learn More About NARHA click the link below.

HorseAbility offers a wide range of opportunities for our clients including a Therapeutic Riding Program, Hippotherapy Program, one-week Summer Day Camp, and an Equine Facilitated Therapy Program. HorseAbility also offers many volunteer opportunities. Horse experience is not a necessity. There are many areas in which volunteers are needed! HorseAbility, located in Melville NY, and currently provides quality equine experiences year round to over three hundred clients with the assistance of more then three hundred and fifty volunteers and continues to grow.

The Long Island Horse Show Series for Riders with Disabilities (LIHSSRD)
The LIHSSRD show season began on Sunday, September 28th at the Thomas School of Horsemanship. Texas Hold'em Fund Raising Event will be held June 20 at the Hilton Garden Inn in Plainview.  Get your poker buddies together!!!

WHO HORSEABILITY HELPS

  • The young person confined to a wheelchair.
  • The student with learning disabilities who is struggling in school and acting out in frustration.
  • The emotionally injured child feeling hopeless because of family stress or the upheaval of divorce.
  • The person victimized by physical violence or sexual abuse.
  • The child whose psychological development has been delayed.
  • The person, man, woman, boy or girl, whose chances for joy and self-reliance have been diminished or destroyed.
